Big fan of this multilayered garden pergola design. Cannot confirm that the wood is actually aged, or maybe just made to look aged, but regardless the effect works well within the overall design. While most pergolas fit in to the category of functional defined space, "This is a pool house", "this is a BBQ area", this particular design seems to be simply a shaded structure with no real defined purpose other than to look good within a garden environment. Considering all of the vines and the hanging baskets, it's clearly a place to walk and enjoy. Covering it all with solar panels might not probably isn't going to win any fans, the space itself that it protects clearly wants to be open to the elements, but some carefully placed and well thought out PV panels, not covering the full area wouldn't necessarily kill the vibe.
